What to Expect

Rachel will complete the appropriate bodywork before deciding whether taping would be useful.

The horse’s coat must be reasonably clean and dry so the tape can adhere. Tape may not stay as well on a wet, oily, heavily shedding, or very dirty coat.

Once applied, the horse can generally move, turn out, and work normally unless Rachel gives different instructions.

The amount of time the tape remains attached varies. Some applications stay in place for several days, while others loosen sooner because of weather, coat condition, sweating, grooming, or the horse rubbing against surfaces.

Caring for the Tape

Do not pull the tape off abruptly.

When it begins to loosen, it should be removed slowly in the direction of the hair while supporting the skin and coat. Rachel can explain how to remove the specific application safely.

Check the area regularly. Remove the tape if the horse shows irritation, swelling, excessive itching, discomfort, or attempts to remove it repeatedly.
